Paul Rulkens was invited to give the Keynote Lecture of the European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery as the first presenter right at the start of the Innovation Summit in order to set the right tone for the appr. 70 attendees from Europe, North America and Asia. He clearly exceeded all expectations by far and the participants were overwhelmed by his positive attitude towards innovation and disruptive science. He gave not only theoretical background for creating own ideas which will eventually lead to innovative, alternative treatment options in cardio-thoracic surgery, but also provided several practical tools for changing the individual daily routine to facilitate progress in innovative thinking.
